A Quick and Easy Way to Organize Face Masks for the Entire Family

The following is a guest post with a quick and easy way to organize face masks for the entire family from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project. 

It’s back to school time again, which means new backpacks, pencil boxes, and masks. I never thought I would ever say face masks are back to school supplies, but here I am talking about it in a blog post. We have four people in our household and all four of us are in and out of school every day. I am a middle school keyboarding teacher, my husband is a teacher and head football coach, and we have two kids in school (Kate is in middle school and Derrick is in elementary school).

We live in Arkansas and school for us starts back August 24th in person. We have no idea how long that will last, but the plan is to start the year in an actual school. Then, if cases start increasing, then we will immediately go to virtual learning.

I have purchased each one of my kids cute face masks for school. We live in a district that is not making restrictions on these at the time, which I am thankful for. If my kids have to wear masks then I want them to at least like the ones they are wearing.

With four people wearing masks, I needed a system to keep them all organized, easy to reach, and easy to disinfect. This meant that I wanted a plastic option for storage. The plastic bins can easily be wiped down with a disinfecting wipe or cleaner.

The bins I wanted to use were a no-brainer for me. I decided to go with the Room Essentials bins from Target. They are the ones that I use throughout my entire house for organization. Almost every retailer has their own version of these organization pieces. I always purchase white because I think they match everything and add some brightness to any room.

For the labels, I decided to use chalkboard labels and my label maker. Instead of placing the labels on the outside of the bins, I placed them on the inside back. This makes them easy to see when looking in the baskets, but uniform on the outside.

I wanted these baskets to be easy to get to, but out of the way at the same time. I decided to place them on the bottom shelf of my console table in the kitchen. Honestly, I am glad this shelf finally has a purpose. Most of the time, it doesn’t have anything on it.

Now, we are ready for the school year and any outings that require face masks. How do you have your face masks organized?
