Three Tips for How to Safely Celebrate the Holidays This Year
The following is a guest post with three tips for how to safely celebrate the holidays this year, from regular contributor, Morgan from Morganize with Me.
With the holidays around the corner, there is now the question of how to safely connect with our loved ones. What we might traditionally do to celebrate might not be possible this year. We are living in a new reality of needing to socially distance from each other which does make it more challenging to gather together in person.
However, even with the various restrictions, I’m here to encourage you that there are still many ways to spend time with your people! Yes, it may look differently and may not be as traditional, but it is still possible.
As the holidays inch closer we can choose to press into these new challenges and make this a very memorable time. By choosing to pivot, using our personalities, and planning well, we can make the most of this holiday season.
Safely Celebrate the Holidays
#1: Pivoting (is necessary)
We all tend to fall somewhere on a continuum between being more idealistic or more realistic. And in this season, we will all probably need to let go of some of our idealism. We are being required to be more realistic and to pivot away from how things normally are. Flexibility will serve us well if we choose to make it our heartbeat.
Begin by acknowledging your feelings of disappointment, loss, or sadness. This is a season that will most likely not look the same and it’s OK to be frustrated. After working through your feelings, choose to pivot and move forward with what you can do. (Be sure to check out my list below for some holiday ideas and inspiration.)
#2: Personality (use yours!)
You and I each have a unique personality and I encourage you to use yours this holiday season! In my new book, Your Hospitality Personality I shared about the four hospitality personality types. Which one sounds like you? (You can take a free quiz HERE to find out.)
Leader – You enjoy hosting and are extremely good at delegating and leading the charge. People regularly look to you to grab the reins and get things started.
Entertainer – You are the life of the party. You love spending time socializing with others. People want you at their parties because you bring the fun!
Includer – You naturally thrive in the arena of hosting. You appreciate all things centered around the table and find beauty in connection.
Organizer – You are a detailed host and planning all the things is your jam. Your guests appreciate your attention to detail and tend to feel more at ease because you’ve usually thought of just about everything!
If you are a Leader, start leading the charge and helping to create a vision for how you and yours will celebrate. If you are an Entertainer, find ways to bring the lightheartedness that we all really need right now. Or if you are an Includer, look for who needs some extra attention and care, you have a gift of noticing others. And finally, if you are an Organizer, start orchestrating the details for a meaningful season with your loved ones.
Recognize how you are hardwired when it comes to connecting and play to your strengths!
#3: Plan (to make memories)
What do we love most about the holidays and celebrating? It’s usually a combination of the memories experienced and the people we are with. So, if we intentionally plan now we can plan for some meaning in this season. Make the most of this time, seek creative ways to love your friends and family, and practice an attitude of gratitude.
Below is a printable I have available in my shop for free. It lists 20 ways you can creatively and safely practice holiday hospitality. Find the printable HERE.
We often remember the things in life that are really high and really low. Memorable times stick out in our memories and this season can be a very memorable and special time, if choose to make it so.
I hope you enjoyed these tips for how to safely celebrate the holidays.
