Two Adjacent Flats Merge into Modern Apartment in Hampstead
XUL Architecture worked through a number of design plans for this North London project before landing on relocating the staircase to the center of the space underneath a chimney. The homeowners relocated to London from Brussels and immediately hired XUL to renovate the property by joining two adjacent duplex flats to create one larger apartment while improving the circulation throughout. Located on the third floor of a Victorian conversion in Hampstead, the newly improved unit now has increased square footage thanks to the removal of one of the staircases.
The open, light-filled flat benefits from multiple windows and white surfaces which bounce the light around. The furnishings were kept neutral to help keep the space feeling airy and clean.
To continue the industrial feel of the project’s design aesthetic, they created a custom Crittal shower door featuring framed glass for the bathroom. The black structure adds another layer of visual interest against the white tiled space.
